Texas Oppose HB218

Oppose HB 218, Protect Texas Families

HB 218 is not a decriminalization marijuana bill.

It will legalize high amounts of THC and products designed to target youth and disguise use from parents, educators, and employers.

HB 218 would actually legalize up to 1 ounce of dry cannabis (~28.3 grams or 28,350 mg) of marijuana.

  • A joint from the 1990s had about 5% THC.
  • Today’s joint is at least 4 times stronger (20% THC), so 1 ounce is ~28 joints that contain ~200mg of THC each, which is ~5,670 mg of THC.
  • 2 ounces of dry marijuana would be ~11,340 mg of THC.
  • 1 ounce of THC concentrates (dabs/vapes/candies) at 80% THC would equal 113 joints that contain 200 mg of THC or 22,680 mg of THC.
  • 2 ounces of THC concentrates (dabs/vapes/candies) at 80% THC would equal 227 joints that contain 200 mg of THC or 45,359 mg of THC.

That’s a lot of marijuana! People with this much THC are usually trafficking this drug!

I’ve attached the document for more information.

HB 218 will legalize all synthetic THC variants derived from hemp which are currently accessible in smoke shops, gas stations, dollar stores, and online.

The allowable THC content per the Farm Bill is

0.3% THC is the same as 3 mg of THC per gram (=1,000 mg) of dry product weight.

For example,

A 20-gram cookie made from hemp flour could have up to 60 mg of THC.

So about 20 grams of product weight X 3 mg of THC per 1 gram of product weight (20 X 3) = 60 mg of THC per cookie.

Similarly, a 4-gram hemp flour chip could have up to 12 mg of THC (4 X 3 = 12); that’s 1 chip!

Vote NO to HB218!

HB 218 is a slippery slope that will change Texas into states such as California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington and further fuel the addiction and mental illness crisis that is destroying our nation!
